Poetry Every Day Project

Listening to poetry can encourage students and other learners to become members of the circle of readers for whom poetry is a vital source of pleasure. I hope Poetry 180 becomes an important and enriching part of the school day.

Former Poet Laureate of the United States

We couldn't agree more!  There is so much to be enjoyed in the world of poetry!
Poetry 180 is a resource from the Library of Congress.  They have collected 180 poems [one for each school day] of interest to young people.  We have selected poems for the rest of the days of the year - NO day should be without poetry!
These poems are intended to be listened to one-each-day JUST FOR THE PLEASURE OF THEM.  It is not intended that the poems be taught or analyzed.  We all can benefit just from listening for a minute or two a day to great words
Of course the study of Poetry is an important part of the English Curriculum, but ANY class period can  be enhanced by a poem.  Perhaps as a class ender, just before a reminder about homework due tomorrow and class dismissal.
For each day's poem we've included a single-image video to enhance the pleasure of listening.  Feel free to download these - we know that access to youtube.com is limited in many schools.
The texts of the poems can be found either at Poetry 180 or the 'Top 500' at PoemHunter.
